Getting Started in BMX

The Paperwork

Royston Club Membership is £10.00 per year or £15.00 for families. If you want to race at other tracks in East Anglia or beyond, you will need a British Cycling Licence.

Membership of British Cycling includes Third Party Insurance. Ask the Club Secretary for details.

Your Bike
Almost any BMX or MTB can be used to enjoy the fun of BMX racing. The rules regarding bikes are very simple. In order to be able to ride on the track, your bike must be in sound condition. Your bike should have no rust or cracks, all the nuts and bolts must be done up tightly with properly inflated tyres and adjusted chain. Goodies such as stunt pegs, reflectors, lights, mirrors, stands, chain and mud guards must be removed for racing.

Protective Clothing
The picture below shows how simple it is to get involved. The major item to have is a proper race helmet, although the club can often lend you one for your first few weeks. Helmets are like those used in MotoX but are usually lighter. Make sure it fits properly!
