TThe final round of the East Anglia BMX 2010/11
Regional Winter Series was hosted by the Milton Keynes BMX Club last
Sunday. After another long break since round 5 the host club was
expecting a good turn out of riders and even the forecast of rain
and cold on the day did not deter the riders with almost 90
competitors signed on for the days racing. The track was in good
condition and rode well throughout practice and racing but the
biting wind ensured the riders and spectators had a cold day to end
the Winter Series.
Royston’s action started with the 7& Under class
where Callum Barrow took 6th in the class A final with
Brendan Salmon taking 8th place and Joshua Abbott taking
2nd in the B final in his first regional level event. In
the 8-9 year class James King again led the way throughout the day
to take 1st place with team mates Alfie Salmon taking 4th
and Daniel Biggs finishing 6th in the same class and in
the 10-11 year class saw Miles Fisher and Daniel Blanche moving
through the qualifying races to the class A final where Myles took 2nd
and Daniel took 4th on the line. In the girls classes
Ella Tomsett battled against stiff competition to take 2nd
in the 9-10 class with Faye Godfrey took the win in 11-13’s and Lori
Blanche took top place in the 17+ female categories. Back with the
male riders in the 14-16yr class James Handleigh took on the older
riders to claim 5th place and in the 17+ male class which
was the largest of the day and included many national class riders
the Rocket’s Andrew Brooker took the B final win with Alex Shore-Nye
took 6th and in the C final Jonathan Harrison who is
another new Rockets member took 2nd after having lead the
race, fallen off and got back on to battle back through the pack.
The final class of the day, the 17+ cruisers, saw two Rockets
competing with Sam King taking a fine 3rd in the A final
whilst in the class B final Matt Salmon took the top spot.
The next major event on the regional race calendar is
the East Anglia Spring Classic which is being hosted by the Royston
Rockets on April 3rd. This event is open to all riders
with registration closing at 11.30 with racing due to start around
