East Anglia 2010
Spring ClassicT
The opening event of the East Anglia BMX 2010 summer
calendar, the Spring Classic was hosted by the Royston Rockets BMX
racing Club last Sunday at their track in Royston’s Burns Road. The
club’s members had been hard at work over the previous weeks trying
to get the track into reasonable condition following the severe
weather suffered over the winter and their efforts were rewarded
with a fine dry day although the wind made the final straight hard
work for the younger riders.
The
racing attracted over 110 riders from across the region and a few
from outside of the area and as this was a one single event rather
than part of a series the riders raced for trophies in each of the
26 available classes from the Under 6’s to the 45+.
The racing was close and very competitive and
Royston’s female riders got the Rockets trophy tally off to a flying
start with Ella Tomsett winning in the Female 7-8yr class and Helen
Nicholl taking 2nd in the Female 25+ Cruiser class. The
male riders also had a series of good results in their classes with
Charlie Todd taking 3rd in the 6 & under class whilst
Royston riders packed the B Final of the 7yr class with Cameron
Knight taking the win ahead of Will Frascoe in 2nd, Zak
Blanche_Drammeh in 3rd followed home by Josh Knight in 4th,
Callum Barrow in 5th and Brendon Salmon in 6th.
In the 8 year class Alfie Salmon finished in 5th just
ahead of team mate Jack Todd in 6th and the 9yr class was
packed with Rockets with James King in 3rd, Ted
Dalleywater in 4th, Marmaduke Birt claiming 5th
and Alex Knight taking 7th.
The 10yr male class saw more good results for the
Rockets with Daniel Blanche taking the win having been chased all
the way by Myles Fisher who finished in 2nd as did Aaron
Dalleywater in the 11 yr category. The male 12 yr class saw Ethan
Lewis take 4th just ahead of Matthew Harris in 5th
and in the 17+ class James Handleigh, who was riding up an age, took
5th in the class B Final. The 30+ “Masters” class saw
Darren Foreman take 4th Alex Shore Nye taking 6th
and in the 30-39yr Cruiser class Matt Salmon took 3rd
whilst Karl Birt finished in 8th place in the Cruiser 40+
category..
The Rockets will be starting their regular Tuesday
night sessions from April 20th and the First Round of the
East Anglia Region Summer Series starts on April 11th at
Braintree. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events will
be published soon on the club web site at
