Regional Summer Series 2010 Round 5

The fifth round of the East Anglia BMX 2010 Summer Series was held at the Peterborough BMX Clubs track last Sunday.  The day dawned bright and warm and just got hotter for the 120 plus competitors at the event which the club planned to run earlier than normal as they had set up a TV for the England match!

The racing however was very competitive throughout the day for the nineteen riders from Royston who had four winners on the day with one of the clubs newest members making his first trip away from Royston, Daniel Biggs, taking first in the 7 and Under Novice class and wins also went to Daniel Blanche in the 10yr class, Ethan Vernon11 yr class and to and Lee Alexander, competing in the 40+ Vets class. A host of other podium places also came Royston’s way with second places going to Ted Dalleywater in the 9yr class, Myles Fisher in the 10yr class, Andrew Brooker in the 16 yr category and Helen Nicholl in the 25+ ladies Cruiser class. Even more third places were achieved by the Rockets riders with Darren Foreman in the Vets class, Faye Godfrey in the girls 9-10yr class, Matt Salmon in Cruiser 35-39 class and to Alfie Salmon in the 8yr class which also saw him take home one of the Rider of the Day awards. Other results from the Rockets riders include fourth places for James King in the 9yr class, James Handleigh in the 14’s, Jordan Godfrey in the 15’s and Alex Shore-Nye in the Masters (30+) class. Matthew Harris took 7th in the 12 year male class and Jak Bracewell in the 17-24 class took 6th in the B final whilst Richard Townsend had to retire from the same class as hay fever made it unsafe to compete in the largest and possibly fastest class of the day.

The Rockets hold their regular Tuesday night sessions from 6.00pm and the sixth Round of the East Anglia Region Series is on July 25th at the Rockets home track in Burns Road, Royston and before that on June 2-4th the Rockets will be travelling to the north west for the 7th and 8th rounds of the British Cycling National BMX series in Manchester. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
