The fourth round of the East Anglia BMX 2010 Summer
Series which was also the second of the Inter Regional Challenge
between East Anglia and the South Region was held at the new track
of the Braintree BMX Club last Sunday. Over 300 riders from across
both regions registered for the event although the weather played a
major part on the days racing with high winds affecting the riders
lines on the tracks.
The racing however was very competitive throughout
the day for the eighteen riders from Royston who had four female
riders taking the part with the youngest, Ella Tomsett, taking 3rd
in the Girls 7-8 class to get the club off to a flying start and in
the 11-12 category Faye Godfrey took 5th as did Helen
Nicholl in the Ladies Cruiser 25+ class and Katie Roberts went one
better with a 2nd in the Championship classes.
The male riders also came away with good results with
Alfie Salmon taking 3rd in the 8 year class B final and the 9yr
class final saw James King in 3rd in the main A final and
team mate Marmaduke Birt in 3rd in the B final. The 10yr
male class saw two more good results for the Rockets with Daniel
Blanche finishing taking a fine win, having been chased all the way
by Myles Fisher who finished in 4th and in the 11 yr
class saw Ethan Vernon take another win. In the 14 yr class James
Handleigh finished in 3rd in the A final and the 15yr
class Jordan Godfrey finished in 6th and in the 16 year
category Andrew Brooker took 7th in the A final. Moving onto the
older categories the 17-24 class, Richard Townsend finished in 5th
and in the 30+ “Masters” class Alex Shore-Nye took 8th
overall and Lee Alexander, competing in the 40+ Vets class finished
with another win for the Rockets whilst in the Cruiser classes, Matt
Salmon raced in the 35-39 class and finished with 3rd in
