Regional Summer Series 2010 Round 1
The first round of the East Anglia BMX 2010 Summer
Series was hosted by the Braintree BMX Club last Sunday at their
rebuilt track which is due to host rounds of the British Cycling
National Series later in the year. The club’s members had been hard
at work over the previous weeks to get the track into good condition
including the installation of a new start gate system and their
efforts were rewarded with a fine dry day and over 130 riders from
across the region and a few from outside of the area.
The racing was fast and competitive and Royston’s
younger riders started the clubs chase for points off in the 7yr
class with Will Frascoe taking 7th and the 9yr class “A”
final was packed with Rockets with James King in 2nd, Ted
Dalleywater in 4th, and Ben Mansfield in 8th
whilst in the class “B” final Marmaduke Birt claimed 2nd.
The 10yr male class saw two more good results for the Rockets with
Daniel Blanche taking the win having been chased all the way by
Myles Fisher who finished in 2nd and the result was
repeated in the 11 yr class where Ethan Vernon took the win ahead of
Aaron Dalleywater in 2nd. The male 12 yr class saw Matthew Harris in
5th which was the same result achieved by Max Jenkins in
the 13yr class. The 14yr class was won by James Handleigh who was
also awarded Rider of the Day by the judges. The 17-24 class saw
Richard Townsend take 7th in the class A final and in the
30+ “Masters” class British Champion Lee Alexander took the win with
Adam Richards in 3rd and Darren Foreman taking 7th
and Carl Birt finished in 6th place in the Cruiser 40+
category.
The Rockets will be starting their regular Tuesday
night sessions from April 20th and the second Round of
the East Anglia Region Series is on May 9th at Codham. Full details
of forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club
