The National BMX 2010 summer series moved to the
North West last weekend as the Manchester BMX Club hosted rounds 7
and 8 of the series. The Royston members had success at both rounds
which attracted almost 500 riders from across the UK with round 7 of
the series was held on Saturday whilst Sunday saw the riders
competing in round 8
The racing was close, fast and very competitive on
the 400m long track and Royston’s young riders in the 9 year class
worked hard to gain points for their series rankings but neither
Ted Dalleywater or Marmaduke Birt were able to move out of the
qualifying races on either day. In the 10yr class Royston had a
trio of riders with Ethan Vernon taking a 2nd place on
both Saturday and Sunday whilst Daniel Blanche also made the A final
on both days with two 7th places and Myles Fisher took 8th
place in the B finals of both rounds. In the 11yr class, Aaron
Dalleywater had a poor day by his standards on Saturday but still
managed to take 8th place in the B final but was unable
to stay to compete on Sunday whilst in the 14’s James Handleigh just
missed qualification for the semi finals on both days and Andrew
Brooker in the 16 yr class continued to hone his race skills with 5th
and 4th places in the class B finals. Competing in the
“Masters” class was Richard Townsend where he finished with 3rd in
Saturdays B final and improved to 2nd in Sundays B final. In the
Over 45 year cruiser classes Carl Birt took home two 7th
places and in the Veteran (40+) class Lee Alexander again showed the
pack how to ride the track with a clear win in Saturdays A final
only to aggravate an old injury in Sundays practice which curtailed
his days racing..
The Rockets are running their regular Tuesday night
sessions from 6.00pm til dark and are hosting the sixth round of the
East Anglia Region Summer Series on July 25th at their

attend. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events will be
published soon on the club web site at
