The National BMX 2010 summer series came to East
Anglia last weekend as the Braintree BMX Club hosted rounds 5 and 6
of the series. The Royston members had some great results at both
rounds which attracted over 500 riders from across the UK with round
5 of the series was held on Saturday whilst Sunday saw the riders
competing in round 6
The racing was close, fast and very competitive on
the compact 330m long track and Royston’s quartet of young riders in
the 9 year class, battled hard to gain points for their series
rankings with Marmaduke Birt and Ben Mansfield being unable to move
out of the qualifying races on either day but James King, having
just missed a semi final place on Saturday went on to take 4th
in Sundays B final and Ted Dalleywater took 7th in the B
final on Saturday but missed the qualification mark on the Sunday.
In the 10yr class Royston had a trio of riders with Ethan Vernon
leading the way on Saturday to a well deserved win which he followed
with a 2nd place on Sunday whilst Daniel Blanche also
made the A final on both days with 8th and 5th
places and team mate Myles Fisher taking 7th in Saturdays
B final and 3rd in the class B final on Sunday. In the
11yr class, Aaron Dalleywater had a disastrous day on Saturday but
still managed to take 8th place in the B final but
bounced back to full form on Sunday when he raced home to 2nd
in the main A final. The 14’s James Handleigh just missed out in
the semi final on both days but still went home with two 6th
place B final points and Andrew Brooker in the 16 yr class continued
to hone his race skills with 3rd and 5th
places in the class B finals. Competing in the “Masters” class was
Richard Townsend where he finished with 6th in Saturdays
A final and 2nd in Sundays B final whilst in the cruiser classes
Carl Birt took home a 5th and 6th place in the
Over 45 year class and in the Ladies Over 25 class Helen Nicholl
rode round 5 only and also took a 5th place. The
highlight of the Royston clubs weekend came in the Veteran (40+)
class were Darren Foreman took 4th and 3rd the class B
final but Lee Alexander showed the pack how to ride the track with
two wins in the main final to extend his lead at the top of the
class rankings.
