National Summer Series 2010 Rounds 3 & 4

The National BMX 2010 summer series moved last weekend to the Alvaston Park track of the Derby BMX Club. Once again the Royston members had varying success but unlike the first rounds of the series this time all the incidents were on the track. The racing attracted almost 530 riders from across the UK with round 3 of the Series was held on Saturday Sunday saw the riders competing in round 4

The racing was close, fast and very competitive and Royston’s youngest riders at the event, James King and Ted Dalleywater riding in the 9 year class found the very long track very demanding and both just failed to make the semi finals on the first day but James King went on to take 6th in the Sundays B final whilst in the 10yr class Daniel Blanche took the win in the B final on Saturday and Sunday just as he had at rounds 1 and 2 with Myles Fisher taking 4th in Saturdays B final and 2nd in the class B final on Sunday whilst Ethan Vernon took 1st in the A final on Saturday and was just pushed down into 2nd in the A final on Sunday. In the 11yr class, Aaron Dalleywater was not at his best but still managed to take 8th place in the A final on both days and in the 14’s James Handleigh just missed out on semi final qualification in the run off on Sunday having been unable to race on the Saturday. Making his mark on the national series but not in the way he intended was Andrew Brooker in the 16 yr class with crashes on both days but managed to make the semi finals on Saturday where he finished in 8th but on Sunday was unable to qualify for the semi finals. In the female Championship class – the top level for the girls, Royston’s Katie Roberts made an all to rare appearance to take 3rd in the B final on Saturday but college commitments made her unavailable for Sunday whilst Darren Foreman riding in the Veteran (40+) class on Sunday won the class B final. The final rider for the Rockets was Richard Townsend competing in the “Masters” class where he finished with 8th in Saturdays A final and 3rd in Sundays B final.

The Rockets are running their regular Tuesday night sessions from 6.00pm til dark and will be out in force at the third round of the East Anglia Region Summer Series on May 23rd at the Barking and Dagenham track which is an interregional challenge between the East and south regions and promises a very full programme with around 300 riders expected to attend. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events will be published soon on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
