National Summer Series 2010 Rounds 1 & 2

The two opening rounds of National BMX 2010 summer calendar was held last weekend in Cheddar at the Broadway House track. The Royston club members had varying success with one rider going down with food poisoning and another injuring himself even before the event started. The racing attracted over 560 riders from across the UK and a few from outside of the country who had travelled to race on one of the best tracks in Europe. Round 1 of the Series was held on Saturday afternoon and evening whilst Sunday morning and afternoon saw the riders competing in round 2

The racing was close, fast and very competitive and Royston’s youngest rider at the event, James King riding in the 9 year class just failed to make the semi finals on both days whilst in the 10yr class Daniel Blanche took 2nd in the B final on Saturday and Sunday with Myles Fisher in his first national event taking 7th in Saturdays A final and winning the class B final on Sunday whilst Ethan Vernon took 2nd in the A final on both days to get his national title challenge of to a flying start. In the 11yr class, Aaron Dalleywater was only able to attend on the Saturday but took points for a 3rd place in the A final and in the 14’s James Handleigh took 2nd in Saturdays B final but qualified for the A final on Sunday where he finished in 8th. Also taking part in his first National Series event, Andrew Brooker in the 16 yr class just failed to make the semi finals on Saturday but improved on Sunday to qualify for the class B final where he took 8th. The final rider for the Rockets was Richard Townsend competing in the “Masters” class where he finished with 5th in Saturdays B final and 8th in Sundays A final.

The Rockets are running their regular Tuesday night sessions from 6.00pm til dark and will be out in force at the second round of the East Anglia Region Summer Series on May 9th at Codham Park.
