National Summer Series Round 9 and 10

Regional Summer Series 2010 Round 8

The Rockets have been competing at National and Regional BMX 2010 Summer Series events in the last two weeks with a trip to the new south coast track of the Gosport BMX Club last weekend for rounds 9 and 10 of the national series and this weekend to the rescheduled Regional series event hosted by the Ipswich BMX Club but actually run on the Braintree club’s track  The Royston members had success at all the events which attracted almost 500 riders from across the UK for the national the series held on the Saturday and Sunday whilst the regional event had almost 120 riders competing in the penultimate round of the series.

The national racing was close, fast and very competitive on the Gosport track which is unusual in shape as it has two more straights and corners than the majority of venues and Royston’s youngest rider in the 9 year, Ted Dalleywater was able to move out of the qualifying races to the semi finals and ended up taking 7th in the B final on the Saturday but was unable to repeat the feat on Sunday. In the 10yr class Royston had two riders with Ethan Vernon taking a 2nd place on both Saturday and Sunday whilst Myles Fisher took his racing up a notch with 5th place in the A finals on Saturday but fell whilst trying to take 4th place in Sundays A final, eventually coming in a dusty 8th., Aaron Dalleywater, in the 11yr class had a poor day by his standards on Saturday but managed to take the win in the B final but was back to form on Sunday with a hard earned 2nd in the A final. The 15yr class saw Royston’s Jordan Godfrey trying his skills at national level although he was unable to move out of the qualification rounds on either day following a fall whilst Andrew Brooker, competing in the 16 yr class was unable to qualify for the semi finals on Saturday but retuned to form with 4th place in the class B final on Sunday. In the “Masters” class, Richard Townsend took a clear win in Saturdays B final and followed that with a 6th in Sundays A final.

Royston Rockets had nineteen riders taking part across all age classes in the Regional series event on Sunday 15th Aug) starting with the 7 and Under novices where Royston’s Callum Barrow took the first place with Brendan Salmon finishing in 3rd whilst in the 8yr Expert category Alfie Salmon finished in 3rd which was the same positioned achieved by Ted Dalleywater in the 9 year class who was just behind James King who took 2nd with team mates Benjamin Mansfield in 8th and Marmaduke Birt taking the B final win. The 10 year class saw the Rockets lead the pack all day with Miles Fisher taking a third consecutive win just ahead of team mate Daniel Blanche who took 3rd overall and in the 11 year class Aaron Dalleywater came home in second. The 12 year category saw Matthew Harris claim 6th overall and in the girls classes Royston’s Faye Godfrey took 3rd in the 11-12 year group and Helen Nicholl took 2nd in the 25+ Ladies cruiser class. In the 17 -14 category Alex Shore-Nye took 2nd in the B final and David Thompson in the 25-29 category took the class win and in the Vets (40+) class the win went to Royston’s Lee Alexander, who also took another win in the Cruiser 40-44 class, with Darren Foreman in 2nd and in the cruiser classes Matt Salmon took 4th in the 35-39 class whilst Carl Birt took another win for the club in the 45+ class.

The Rockets are running their regular Tuesday night sessions from 6.00pm until dark at their track in Royston at Burns Road.
