Regional Winter Series 2009/10 Round 5
The fifth and final round of the East Anglia BMX
Region winter series took place last Sunday at the track of the
Norwich BMX Club
who
had already rescheduled the event as heavy snow caused the original
date to be cancelled at very short notice
The racing attracted almost 70 riders from across the
region and a few from outside of the area trying to find somewhere
to ride after the sports winter calendar has fallen foul of the
weather, although many stayed at home because of the earlier
forecasts which indicated rain showers throughout the event.
However, the day dawned bright and dry with sunny periods to provide
good conditions for the riders on a track that had weathered well
throughout the winter.
With riders competing to gain points for their
overall series rankings the racing was close and very competitive
and Royston’s only female rider at the event, Ella Tomsett took a
well earned 4th in the 10 and Under Girls class to hold
onto the series top spot by just one point and the male riders also
had a series of good results in their classes with Myles Fisher in
the 8-10yr male class finished first in the “A” final ahead of James
King in 5th which gave Myles enough points to take the
class series top spot with James moving up to 6th overall
and in the class B final Marmaduke Birt took 5th. The
Rockets took another good position in the 11-13yr category where
Ethan Vernon took 2nd place in the A final and another
series champion for the club. The 14-16yr class saw Andrew Brooker
finish in 4th and Max Jenkins took 5th in the
class A final which also happen to be their final positions in the
series rankings. The 30+ class saw another first for Darren Foreman
and he also sealed the series win and the final rider for the
Rockets competing in the 17+ Cruiser class was Carl Birt who
finished in 5th place and 4th overall in the
series rankings.
With Royston riders claiming top spot in no less
than four out of the nine winter series classes the club is set well
to get a good range of results in the 2010 summer series starting in
April.
Before then the Rockets have the privilege of
setting off the 2010 calendar with two events at their home track in
Burns Road. On March 21st the club is holding a “Come and
Try” session with the day starting at 10.30am and this will be open
to anyone to come along and see what BMX racing is all about and
then on March 28th the club is holding the East Anglia
Region Spring Classic race which is open to all riders with
registration closing at 11.30am . Full details of forthcoming club
and regional events will be published soon on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
information on BMX racing.
