Regional Winter Series 2009/10 Round 1

The first round of the East Anglia BMX Region winter series took place last Sunday at the track of the Braintree BMX Club. The event attracted almost 140 riders from across the region and apart from one short sharp shower the weather was dry and sunny which gave good conditions for the riders on a track that was rebuilt earlier in the year to full national standard.

This winter series runs different classes to the summer series with Novice and Expert riders of all abilities competing together to gain points to their series rankings. Royston’s only female rider on the day, Ella Tomsett, started a good run of results for her club as she took 5th in the 10 and Under Girls class whilst in the 8-10yr male class Myles Fisher made the main “A” final where he finished in 8th, James King took the win in the B final and Royston’s two new riders in the class, Benjamin Mansfield and Nate Ridgewell took 2nd and 5th in the “C” final. The Rockets took a podium position in the 11-13yr category where Ethan Vernon took 2nd place overall and in the 14-16yr class, Andrew Brooker took 6th in the “A” final whilst team mates Max Jenkins and Joel Smith took 4th and 5th respectively in the class “B” final. The final rider for the Rockets competing in the Masters class (30+) was Darren Foreman who took a fine win to round off a good day for the club’s members, many of whom are relatively new to this level of competition.

Round 2 of the Regional Series takes place on 15th November at Peterborough and the Rockets own winter series programme at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston continues on November 29th. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events will be published soon on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
