Regional Summer Series Round 7t

The return round of the East Anglia versus South Region Challenge took place last Sunday at the track of the Hayes Hawks BMX Club which was also the seventh round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Race Series. The event attracted over 250 riders from across the two regions and the weather was dry but often overcast which made good conditions for the riders on the fast but dusty track that even an early spraying from the local Fire and Rescue vehicle could not dampen.

The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 7 riders competing with the club’s newest recruit, Darren Plumb, moving up from the novice ranks to ride in the 16yr Experts class where he took a well earned seventh in the class A final whilst in the younger expert classes Ethan Vernon took second with team mate Daniel Blanche finishing seventh in the class A final of the 9 year class. The 10yr class saw Bradan Blanche taking a fine third in the A final and in the 11’s Matthew Harris took second in the class B final. In the 14 year category Aston Blanche eased into the class A final and crossed the line ahead of the chasing pack whilst in the 15 year class Andrew Brooker who had recently progressed from the Novice classes into the experts took fifth in the B final.

The next event on the regional race calendar is the eighth round to be held at Ipswich on July 26th where the Rockets will again be out in force to chase points for their ranking positions.

The clubs own Summer Race Series is going well as part of their regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
