The fourth round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Race
Series took place last Sunday with the second part of the challenge
event between the East Anglia and Midlands Regions. The weather was
generally dry but compared to the warmth of the previous week it was
cold and very windy which gave difficult conditions in which to race
on the very long and demanding track and with almost 300 riders
taking part during the afternoon the spectators were shown some very
competitive racing in all the classes.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had over 20
riders competing with the club’s newest member, Myles Fisher, taking
an excellent 4th place in the Novice 8-10 year category and in the
expert 6 years and Under category Charlie Todd took 6th
in the B final whilst in the 7 year class the B final saw three
Rockets take the top places with Alfie Salmon in 3rd just
behind team mates Louis Foreman in 2nd and Jack Todd who
took the win. In the 8yr class Ted Dalleywater looked good in the
early qualifying races but then a crash put him out of contention
but fellow Rocket James King battled the wind to finish in 4th
in the A final. The clubs only representative in the 9 year class
was Daniel Blanche who took a fine 2nd whilst in the 10yr
class Bradan Blanche took 8th place in the A final and in
the 11;s Matthew Harris took 5th in the B final. The 13y
class saw James Handleigh take 3rd in the class and win an award as
one of the Riders of the Day and in the 14 year category Aston
Blanche kept up his challenge for the top ranking with a fine class
win. Lee Alexander made the A final in the Masters class but another
mid race incident dropped him down to 8th and Darren
Foreman took 3rd in the B final of the same class. In the
19+ class Richard Townsend took 7th and the B final
behind team mate Billy Irwin in 4th whilst the class win
went to the national Elite top rider, Laurence Mapp. The Cruiser
classes (24 inch wheels) saw Danny Theedham take 4th in
the 13-15 class whilst in the 30-39 class Matt Salmon took 3rd
in the B final and in the final class of the day, the 40-44
Cruisers, Mark Seaman took 3rd in the A final with team
mate Danny Ancell finishing in 7th.
The next event on the race calendar is the third and
fourth rounds of the National Series at Burnham on Sea over the May
holiday weekend where the Rockets will again be out in force to
chase points for their ranking positions.
The clubs own Summer Series is well under way with
their regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns
Road, Royston. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events
