The Norwich Flyers BMX racing club were host to the
second round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Race Series last Sunday
on their recently re-surfaced race track. The weather was dry and
sunny – in fact almost too warm in which to race on the very long
and demanding track and with almost 100 riders taking part during
the afternoon the spectators who were basking in the sunshine were
shown some very competitive racing in all the classes.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 13 riders
competing with the club’s youngest rider on the day, Charlie Todd
competing in the 6 and under class where he finished in 5th
and in the expert 7 year class his brother, Jack Todd, managed one
place better in 4th just ahead of Alfie Salmon in 5th
and in the “B” Final Louis Foreman finished in 1st place.
In the 8yr class A final Royston’s Ted Dalleywater took 4th,
ahead of team mate James King who finished in 5th. The
Rockets representative in the 10yr class, Aaron Dalleywater, took
another fine first place in the A final to keep up his challenge for
the class “number one” plate.
The Masters (30+) class saw Lee Alexander take the
top spot to get his season off to a flying start whilst Darren
Foreman in the same class won the “B” final. In the 19+ class
Richard Townsend’s season finally got off to a start as he took 2nd
in the “B” final after the disappointment of his bike failure in
round 1 of the series a few weeks ago. The Cruiser classes (24 inch
wheels) saw Danny Theedham take another 1st for the club
in the 13-15 class whilst in the 30-39 class Matt Salmon took 4th
and in the 40-44 class Danny Ancell finishing in a hard fought 3rd.
The next event on the race calendar is the first two
rounds of the National Summer Series at Derby over the Easter
holidays where the Rockets will again be out in force to chase
points for their national ranking positions.
The clubs own Summer Series start on April 21st
with their regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in
Burns Road, Royston. Full details of forthcoming club and regional
events are published on the club web site at
