Euro Rounds 13-14
at Cheddar
TLast weekend saw the British rounds of the BMX
Racing European Championships held at the international track in
Cheddar, Somerset. The event attracted almost 400 riders from across
Europe and the weather was dry and sunny which made good conditions
for the riders on the fast downhill track.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 3 riders
competing with Ethan Vernon and Aaron Dalleywater trying their luck
in the 9/10 year class on both Saturday and Sunday and Lee Alexander
racing in two classes on the Sunday. Ethan was one of the younger 9
year olds in the class but still managed some excellent results in
his qualifying motos to make it to the semi finals on both days
although fifth places ended his racing in each round – a good
performance given that he was racing against some of the best 10
year old riders in Europe. Aaron Dalleywater is 10 years old and the
extra year showed as he eased his way into the main finals with a
great third place on Saturday and a hard fought sixth on the Sunday.
A very early start on Sunday to get to Cheddar for the 8am practice
session did not deter Lee Alexander as he rode in both the Cruiser
40+ class and the 20” 30+ class. Lee made the finals in both classes
and took 5th in the 30+ standard BMX class then topped
the day with a fine win in the Cruiser 40+ category.
The next event on the regional race calendar is the
return leg of the EA v South Challenge at Hayes in early July where
the Rockets will again be out in force to chase points for their
ranking positions.
The clubs own Summer Race Series is going well as
part of their regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in
Burns Road, Royston. Full details of forthcoming club and regional
events are published on the club web site at
