Regional Winter Series 2008/9 Round
5
Last Sunday saw the fifth and final round of the East
Anglia BMX Winter Series jointly hosted by the Royston and Ipswich
BMX Racing Clubs. The event was originally schedules for mid
February at Ipswich but the snow and rain forced it to be
rescheduled for March 29th but the track at Ipswich was
still not available to the club as the parking areas were too wet so
the Ipswich club ran the event on Royston’s track in Burns Road. The
wet and windy weather forecast for Saturday did materialise and the
track preparation work carried out by club members was limited but
Sunday dawned dry and bright with just a hint of snow for the early
risers to contend with. The wet sections of the track soon dried out
and the 70 plus competitors from across the region who ventured out
and remembered to reset their clocks enjoyed some fast competitive
racing.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had members
competing across most classes, starting with the Formula 6 category
for under 7yr olds where Jack Todd took 1st in the A
final with younger brother Charlie Todd taking 2nd in the
class B Final just ahead of team mate Zak Blanche-Drameh in 3rd. In
the Formula 5 class for 8-9 year old riders Royston’s James King
finished on top of the pack with Alfie Salmon, who was riding up a
class taking in 6th to gain extra series bonus points
whilst the Formula 4 class saw Daniel Blanche take another win
whilst Matthew Harris finished first in the class B final. Moving up
the age range to Formula 2, Aston Blanche made the A final to finish
in 8th and in the largest class of the day, Formula 1 for
19 and over riders the four Royston members gained more good results
with Lee Alexander taking 2nd and Dave Godfrey in 8th
in the A final and in the class B final the win went to Mark Seaman
just ahead of Adam Richards in 2nd place.
The next event of the BMX season is the second round
of the Regional Summer Series at Norwich on April 5th and
the Rockets own summer evening practice starts on April 21st
A full schedule is on the club web site at
