Last Sunday saw the fourth round of the East Anglia
BMX Winter Series hosted by the Royston BMX Racing Club. The wet and
windy weather forecast for Sunday did not materialise and the track
preparation work carried out by club members on Saturday was worth
the effort as Sunday dawned dry and bright with just a stiff breeze
for the riders to contend with. The wind dried the wet sections of
the track so the 120 competitors from across the region who ventured
out enjoyed some fast competitive racing.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had members
competing across most classes, starting with the Formula 6 category
for under 7yr olds where Jack Todd took 2nd in the A
final with younger brother Charlie Todd taking 2nd in the
class B Final. In the Formula 5 class for 8-9 year old riders
Royston’s James King finished in 4th ahead of team mates
Ted Dalleywater in 5th and Alfie Salmon, who was riding
up a class, in 7th whilst in the class B final the win
went to Royston’s newest member Myles Fisher with Archie York in 5th.
Formula 4 saw Daniel Blanche take 3rd
place overall with Josh Peters in 3rd and Bradan Blanche
in 6th whilst Matthew Harris finished in 6th
in the class B final. Moving up the age range, James Handleigh led
the field all day to take the class win Formula 3 just ahead of
Ethan Vernon in 2nd with Aaron Dalleywater battling home
for 6th place and in Formula 2, Danny Thedam took 3rd
in the B. The largest class of the day – Formual 1 for 19 and over
riders saw varying fortunes for Royston’s members with the youngest
of the trio, Dave Godfrey taking 7th in the A final and
the clubs two 30+ riders also made it to the finals with Danny
Ancell taking second in the C final and Matt Salmon winning the E
final.
The final event of the series is at Ipswich on
February 15th where it is hoped the weather will again be
kind to the riders! The Rockets own winter practice schedule has
been published on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
