Last Sunday saw the
first round of the East Anglia BMX Winter Series at the Braintree
BMX track. Following a week of good weather the wet and miserable
weather returned on Sunday and made race conditions unpleasant for
the riders as the surface water and mud made progress very difficult
– indeed the organisers considered abandoning the event before it
even started!. The event attracted over 70 competitors from across
the region who provided the spectators with some very close racing
in all the classes.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club only had 8
members competing starting with the The Formula 6 classs for under
7yr olds where Kele Newall finished in 4th place in the A final. In
the Formula 5 class for 8-9 year old riders Royston had a good turn
out and all the clubs riders made the A final with Josh Peters
taking the win with James King in 2nd and Archie York finishing in
6th just ahead of Marmaduke Birt in 7th.
Moving up to the older riders, the Formula 2 class (15-18 year
olds) saw Danny Theedam take 7th and in the largest class
of the day – Formual 1 for 19 and over riders Royston two 30+ riders
made it to the class B final with Danny Ancell in 3rd and
Carl Birt in 5th.
The next event on the series is at Peterborough on
November 16th which it is will fair better with the
weather!. The Rockets own winter practice schedule has been
published on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
information on BMX racing.
