National Series Rounds
8 /9 - July 26/26 2008
AND
Summer Regional
Series Round 9-
August 3rd 2008
Members of the Royston BMX Club have had a hectic few
weeks with 10 riders travelling down to Burnham-on-Sea for rounds 8
and 9 of the national summer series at the end of July and then to
Braintree for the ninth round of the Regional Summer Series last
weekend.
The National Series weekend also included a round of
the European Series for Elite Riders which included many of the top
European riders Arturs Matisons from Latvia taking the win ahead of
Frank Heijne (Netherlands) in 2nd, Dan Whyte from Peckham
in 3rd and Roystons Laurence Mapp in 4th.
In the two National series races held on Saturday and
Sunday, the Rockets youngest club rider, Kele Newall, in the 6 &
Under class took 2nd and 4th in the B final
whilst in the 7 yr class Josh Peters took 4th and 6th
in the A finals and Ted Dalleywater finished in 2ns and 3rd
in the B finals. Royston’s representative in the 8 yr class, Ethan
Vernon took 2nd in the A finals on both days although one
was close call on the line which had to be decided by the camera and
in the same class Daniel Blanche took 6th and 5th
in the A finals to gain more points towards his series ranking. The
9yr class saw Aaron Dalleywater take 6th in the class A final on
Saturday after a race incident but on Sunday he bounced back with a
2nd place whilst team mate Bradan Blanche took 6th
in the B finals on both days. In the 11-12 yr. class James Handleigh
finished in 1st in the B final on Saturday but made a
great improvement on Sunday where he finished in 6th in
the A final whilst in the 13-14 male class Aston Blanche was one of
many riders who did not make it through from the qualifying races.
The following weekends Regional Series event saw 13
Rockets chasing ranking points and qualification to the British
Championships at Peterborough over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
In the 6 and under Class Kele Newell took 4th just ahead
of team mate Louis Foreman who finished in 6th whilst in
the 7yr class Royston riders packed the final with Josh Peters
taking the win, James King in 2nd, Marmaduke Birt in 5th
and Archie York in 6th. The 10yr class saw Zak Foreman
take 7th and in the 13’s James Handleigh took 2nd
with Aston Blanche in 3rd and in the 16yr old class Wayne
Gutteridge took a fine win, The Masters class (30+) saw Darren
Foreman take 3rd and in the Cruiser 30-39 class Danny
Ancell took first as did Laurence Mapp in the Superclass category.
The next event on the calendar is the last round of
the Regional series which is being hosted by the Peterborough BMX
Club on August 10th. With this being the last chance to
ride the Peterborough track before they host the British
Championships the Rockets will be out in force with the day starting
off at 10-00am with rider registration closing at 11-00am and racing
from 1-00pm.
The clubs own Summer Race Series is coming to a
climax with only 2 rounds left of their regular Tuesday night
sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston. Full details of
forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web
site at
