Summer Regional
Series Round
8-
July 20th 2008
Last Sunday saw the eighth round of the East Anglia
BMX Summer Series at the Ipswich BMX clubs track. Following heavy
rains on Saturday the weather stayed dry although occasional winds
gusting around the track made race conditions difficult for the
riders. The event attracted competitors from across the region who
entertained the spectators with some very competitive racing in all
the classes.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 21 riders
competing with the Under 6 yr class getting the racing under way
with Kele Newall finishing in 3rd place and Alfie Salmon taking 7th
in the A final whilst in the B final Tommy Petchell took 3rd
and Louis Foreman had to pull out early in the day due to illness.
In the 7yr class Royston riders packed A final with Josh Peters
taking the win just ahead of Ted Dalleywater in 2nd
Marmaduke Birt in 3rd and Archie York in 4th.
The 8yr class saw Daniel Blanche take a fine win overall and in the
9yr class Aaron Dalleywater took yet another win in the A final with
Bradan Blanche in 7th place slot and in the final of the
10 year class Matthew Harris took 5th with Zak Foreman in
6th place. More success came in the 13yr. category with
Aston Blanche taking another win to boost the clubs points with
James Handleigh taking 2nd and earning a Rider of the Day
award. In the 14 yr. class Andrew Doherty took 3rd
overall in his first regional level event and the 16yr class Wayne
Gutteridge made up for the disappointment of a crash in the previous
round with another win. In the 30-39 Cruiser class, Danny Ancell
took 4th whilst in the 40+ class, Tony Petchell took 2nd
and Darren Foreman took 3rd in the Masters class and in
the largest class on the track Laurence Mapp took the Elite class
win and another Rider of the Day trophy.
The next events on the race calendar are the 8th
and 9th rounds of the National Summer Series at Burnham
on Sea next weekend then it’s back to Regional racing at Braintree
on August 3rd. The clubs own Summer Series has made the half way
stage with their regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track
in Burns Road, Royston. Full details of forthcoming club and
regional events are published on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
