Last Sunday saw the fifth round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Series with the event also being the first round of the annual challenge between East Anglia and the South Regions. Following an early threat of rain the weather stayed dry but high winds gusting around the track made race conditions a little scary for the riders. The event attracted over 250 riders from the two regions who entertained with some very competitive racing in all the classes and at the end of the day the South have a slight lead in the Challenge to take to the return leg at Milton Keynes in a few weeks.

The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 17 riders competing with the Under 6 yr class getting the racing under way with Kelly Newall finishing in7th place in the A final which impressed the judges enough for him to be awarded one of the Riders of the Day trophies and in the class B final Louis Foreman took home 3rd place. Royston riders packed the 7yr class A final with Josh Peters taking the win, Ted Dalleywater taking 4th and James King in 5th and team mate Marmaduke Birt in 7th.
