Summer Regional
Series Round 2
-
May 11th 2008
EA V Midland
Inter Regional round 1
Last Sunday saw the second round of the East Anglia
BMX Summer Series held at the Midlands region track in Mansfield as
the event was also the first part of a two round challenge between
East Anglia and the Midlands. At last the weather was very warm,
possibly too warm for racing in full protective clothing but the
good conditions attracted almost 250 riders from around the country,
many of whom had made the trip to get practice on the Mansfield
track which is hosting rounds of the National BMX Race series next
weekend. During the afternoon the spectators were entertained with
some very competitive racing in all the classes and at the end of
the day the Midlands have a very slight lead in the Challenge which
East Anglia hope too reverse at the second round at Peterborough in
the middle of June.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 13 riders
competing with the club’s newest member, Kelly Newall, competing in
the Under 6 yr class where he finished in fifth place from a class
of 15 riders. In the 7yr class A final Royston had 4 riders with
Josh Peters taking third, Ted Dalleywater in fourth just ahead of
James King who was fifth and Marmaduke Birt taking eighth. The 8yr
class saw Ethan Vernon bouncing back from a heavy fall during
training in the week to take first place with Daniel Blanche in
eighth. In the 9yr class Aaron Dalleywater took a fine second place
in the A final and in the 14yr class Ben Gutteridge went home with a
second in the B final whilst older brother Wayne Gutteridge fought
hard in the A final of the 16yr class where he took 6th
and in the same class Katie Roberts was again testing her skills
against the boys and took the B final win. The final two classes saw
Royston’s Darren Forman in the 30+ Masters taking 2nd place in the B
final and in the Cruiser 16-29 class James Dalleywater took sixth in
the A final.
The next events on the race calendar are the fourth
and fifth rounds of the National Summer Series at Mansfield on May
17/18th where the Rockets will again be out in force to chase points
for their ranking positions. The next major event at the Royston
clubs track in Burns Road is the rescheduled Spring Classic which
was cancelled in April due to the snow – hopefully a situation not
to be repeated on June 1st.
The clubs own Summer Series has started with their
regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road,
Royston. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are
published on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
information on BMX racing.
