Summer National
Series Round
6 - June 7/8th 2008
Last weekend saw the sixth round of the BMX Racing
National Summer Season at Chesterfield. Practice on Saturday was
held in overcast but warm conditions with a little light drizzle
that made parking on the hilly ground a test of skill for those with
caravans but Sunday dawned sunny and the temperature soon rose to
make the conditions a little too hot for the riders in full
protective clothing. As usual, it was an action packed weekend with
almost 400 riders taking part with 11 of them from the Royston BMX
Club.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club involvement
started with the youngest member, Kele Newall, in his first national
season in the 6 & Under class where he took a good 2nd in
the B final whilst in the 7 yr class Josh Peters took 4th
in the A final and after a mid race incident, Super Ted Dalleywater
had to settle for 7th whilst team mate Marmaduke Birt
just failed to move out of the qualifying rounds. Royston’s
representative in the 8 yr class, Ethan Vernon, took 2nd in the A
final to keep up his challenge for the number 1 plate at the end of
the season, whilst in the 9yr class, Aaron Dalleywater took the win
in the class B final with Bradan Blanche taking 5th to
gain more valuable points for their overall rankings. The 11-12 yr.
class saw James Handleigh stuck out in lane 8 at the start of the A
final which made it very difficult to get the ideal racing lines
into the first turn but he managed to finish in 7th and
in the 13-14 male class Aston Blanche found the fast downhill track
did not suite his style and he as another of many riders who did not
make it through from the qualifying races. In the Junior Female
category, Katie Roberts continued her recent fine form as she took
home 3rd place in the A final and in Elite class more
success came Royston’s way with Laurence Mapp taking 2nd
in the main final to continue the defence of his national title.
The next event on the calendar is an Inter – Regional
race between the Midlands Region and East Anglia which is being
hosted by the Peterborough BMX Club on June 15th. The
Rockets will be out in force for this event with the day starting
off at 10-00am with rider registration closing at 11-00am and racing
from 1-00pm until about 4-30pm.
The clubs own Summer Race Series started this week
after a delay due to rain in previous weeks with their regular
Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston.
Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are published
on the club web site at
