Summer National
Series Round
10 & 11 Sept.13/14th 2008
The 10th and 11th rounds of the
BMX Racing National Summer Season were held last weekend at one of
the oldest BMX venues of the Mid Lancs. Club in Coppull. Saturday
was overcast but dry conditions and Sundays racing was completed in
bright sunshine – a rare treat this year for riders and spectators
alike! The track has undergone major rework over the winter and has
been extended to around 350m and with a combination of long and
short straights and all styles of corners made it very fast in
places with riders testing their brakes to the limit as they tried
to negotiate the tighter turns. As usual, it was an action packed
weekend with almost 300 riders taking part with 9 of them from the
Royston BMX Club.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club riders in the 7
yr class started the points chase although Josh Peters’ weekend was
ruined by falls in both days finals relegating him to 8th
and 7th and in the B finals Ted Dalleywater finished in 4th
and 5th. Royston’s representative in the 8 yr class,
Ethan Vernon, was well up with the leaders all weekend taking 2nd
and 3rd in the A Finals and Daniel Blanche had a variable
weekend with a fine 4th place on Saturday but went out in
the qualifying stages on the Sunday, whilst in the 9yr class, Aaron
Dalleywater’s results went the other way as he took 6th on Sunday
and a hard earned 2nd on Sunday. In the 11-12 yr. class
James Handleigh finished in 2nd in Saturdays B final but
returned to form with a 6th in the A final on Sunday. The
clubs older riders put up a series of good results with Katie
Roberts taking 3rd on both days in the Junior Female
class whilst in the Masters (30+) class, Lee Alexander took 3rd
on Saturday and nailed the win on Sunday after an epic race down the
final straight and in the Elite class Laurence Mapp took a 3rd
and 4th over the two days to keep up the defence of his
National title.
The
next event on the calendar is East Anglia Championships which is
being hosted by the Ipswich BMX Club on September 21st.
The Rockets will be out in force for this event with the day
starting off at 10-00am with rider registration closing at 11-00am
and racing from 1-00pm until about 5-30pm.
The Royston club will be running a series of
practice sessions over the winter at the clubs track in Burns Road,
Royston – the first one being on September 28th and full
details of other forthcoming club and regional events are published
on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
information on BMX racing.
