East Anglia Championships
Last Sunday saw the last of the summer calendar
events with the East Anglia BMX Championships at the Ipswich BMX
track. Following the now expected wet and miserable weather during
the week, Sunday dawned dry and warm and continued to get warmer all
day so for once the riders had good conditions to race under. The
event attracted almost 130 competitors from across the region who
entertained the spectators with some very competitive racing in all
the classes.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 17 riders
competing across the age categories starting with Royston filling
the Under 6 yr class where Alfie Salmon took an excellent 2nd
and Kele Newall finished in 6th place just ahead of Jack
Todd in 8th whilst in the class B final Charlie Todd took
5th. In the 7yr class A final took all the top spots with
Josh Peters in 1st place just ahead of Ben Clarke in 2nd
and James King in 3rd and Marmaduke Birt finished 6th.
The 8yr class saw Ethan Vernon take a fine win overall with Daniel
Blanche in 2nd and in the 9yr class Aaron Dalleywater
took 2nd in the final. The 10 year class saw Matthew
Harris finish in 7th and in the 13/14yr. category James
Handleigh took 4th place whilst in the 15/16yr class
Wayne Gutteridge finish in 3rd place. In the 30-39
Cruiser class, Danny Ancell took 4th and in the 13-15
cruiser class, Danny Theedam also took 4th whilst in the
Masters class Lee Alexander who took top spot in the A final. To
round off the day Royston’s Ben Clarke impressed the judges enough
to win a Rider of the Day trophy.
Once the rider’s points were added up the Royston
Club finished in second, just a few points behind the Braintree
Club.
The Rockets are holding a club morning on September
28th at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston, to which
any one is welcome to come and see more about this developing sport.
Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are published
