Winter
Regional Round 4 - February 17th 2008
Last Sunday no less than fourteen of the Royston
Rockets BMX Racing Club members travelled to Braintree for the
fourth round of the East Anglian Winter Series. The heavy frost did
not delay racing and the track held up well for the riders who had
travelled from across the region to have the chance of a good days
racing.
The youngest riders take part in a class known as
Formula 5 and are nominally 7 years and under and Royston’s Ted
Dalleywater took a fine 3rd ahead of team mates Archie
Yorke who took 6th and Loui Foreman in 8th of
the A final whilst Marmaduke Birt finished with a win in the B
final. Royston had no less than 6 riders in Formula 4 which is a
class based on 8-10 year olds with Aaron Dalleywater taking the A
final win Daniel Blanche in 5th and the other members
packed the middle order of the class B final with Zak Foreman taking
3rd, Josh Peters in 5th just ahead of Matthew
Harris in 6th and James King in 8th. Ethan
Vernon took 7th in the A final of Formula 3 (11-13years)
whilst in Formula 2 for 14-16 year old riders James Handleigh took a
fine 2nd place to qualify him for a step up in class for the next
round with Louis Burton taking 2nd in the B Final. The
final class on the track was Formula 1 for rider over 17 years old,
with Royston’s only representative, Darren Foreman, taking 7th
in the class A final.
This was the fourth round of the series which is
running throughout the winter months, the next round being at
Ipswich on March 9th. The Rockets are holding practice
sessions at their track in Burns Road where visitors can try their
hand at riding round the track as well as having a chat to club
members about the sport. Full details of forthcoming club and
regional events are published on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
information on BMX racing.
