Winter
Regional Round 1 - 28th October 2007
Last Sunday the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club
members were competing at the first round of the East Anglian Winter
Series at Milton Keynes BMX Club. The weather was threatening rain
all day and the track has been under water from the nearby river
many times since the start of the year the club had put a lot of
effort into getting the surface ready to make it a really good day
to start the series. The youngest riders take part in a class known
as Formula 5 and are nominally 7 years and under. Royston riders
took two of the top three places in the A Final with Ted Dalleywater
taking 2nd just ahead of James King in 3rd
with Sam Robinson finishing in 6th whilst in the B final
Archie York fought hard for 2nd and one of the youngest
riders of all those competing, Loui Foreman, took 3rd
place. More success came in Formula 4 which is a class based on 8-10
year olds and the Rockets riders had “A” final success with Ethan
Vernon in 3rd and Daniel Blanche in 4th with
Aaron Dalleywater in 5th and in the class B Final, Zak
Foreman took the win with George Bracewell in 3rd. All
three of the Rockets representative in Formula 3 (11-13 years)
qualified for a very competitive A final where James Handleigh took
a clear win with team mate Louis Burton finishing in 3rd
just ahead of Harry Bracewell in 4th. In Formula 2 for
14-16 year old riders, Jak Bracewell took 4th in the A
Final whilst in the B Final Zak Pegram took 3rd. The
final class on the track was Formula 1 for rider over 17 years old,
which was the largest and fastest class of the day where in the
class B final Royston’s two representatives had a good showing with
James Dalleywater taking the win with Darren Foreman in 3rd
whilst Tom Yorke took the win in the class C final.
This was the first round of the series which is
running throughout the winter months. The Rockets will be holding
practice sessions at their track in Burns Road with the next one
scheduled for November 4th where visitors can try their
hand at riding round the track as well as having a chat to club
members about the sport. Full details of forthcoming club and
regional events are published on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
information on BMX racing.
