National Summer Series Rounds 5 - Mid Lancs.

The BMX National series moved onto Round 4 at the Mid Lancs. Club in Coppul last Sunday and as usual it was an action packed weekend with approaching 300 riders taking part and no less than 15 of them from the Royston BMX Club. The weather was very wet and miserable for Saturday but the track held up well to the heavy storms and Sunday was only a little better with few periods of sunshine.  

The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club involvement started with the youngest member, Ted Dalleywater, competing in the Under 6 yr class where he was rewarded with 2^nd place in the B final and in the 7yr class Royston’s three riders took home some good results with Daniel Blanche taking 4^th just ahead of team mate Aaron Threader in 5^th and Ethan Vernon took a fine win after a race long battle with the elements and other competitors. In the 8yr class, Aaron Dalleywater made the A final with a well earned 7^th whilst in the 9yr. class Ethan Lewis took 2^nd in the B final and the 11-12 yr. class saw James Handleigh finished in 8^th in the A final although team mate Louis Burton was unable to qualify from the opening rounds.  The 13/14 class also saw Antony Taylor have a variable weekend, finishing with 5^th in the B final.

In the 19+ men’s class, Jonathan Roberts took 4^th in the main final and in the Junior Female, Katie Roberts came home in 3^rd overall. The Masterclass category saw Lee Alexander return to racing with a fine 3^rd in the A final and in the Elite class more success came Royston’s way with Laurence Mapp taking 2^nd and Chris Mapp, after a fall had to settle for 8^th whilst Richard Townsend took the win in the class B final.  

The next event on the race calendar was to have been the seventh round of the Regional Summer Series at Norwich but the excessive rains of recent weeks have made their track unrideable. The series now moves onto the first of two Inter-Regional races with the Midlands to be held at Peterborough on July 29th and the Rockets will be out in force for this event to gain points towards their Regional ranking and counting towards qualification to the British Championships at the end of August.
