East Anglia BMX Regional Series Round 6 - Braintree

After the previous round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Series hosted by the Peterborough BMX Club run in bright sunshine a few weeks ago it was back to rain and mud at the sixth round last Sunday at the recently rebuilt track of the Braintree BMX Club. The track changes really improved the layout of the track but their full benefit could not be found as the riders struggled through the water sodden surface.

The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had it’s full range of riders competing at the event with the youngest expert members competing in the Under 6yr class, where Ted Dalleywater finished in 2nd just ahead of Archie Yorke in 3rd. In the combined 7/8yr class A final Ethan Vernon took a fine win with Aaron Threader in 3rd ahead of Aaron Dalleywater in 4th and Oliver Snelling 7th. The A final of the combined 9 and 10yr Class saw Ethan Lewis finish in 7th and in the 11-12 yr. class James Handleigh took another win with Louis Burton in 4th and in the 13 -14yr class saw Antony Taylor continuing his recent good form with another win for the club whilst Ben Gutteridge finished in 5th. The 15-16yr male category saw Wayne Gutteridge finishing in 4th and in the Cruiser 30-39 class, Tom Yorke took first place as did Phil Burton in the 40+ Cruiser.

The next event on the race calendar is the fifth round of the National Summer Series being hosted by the Mid Lancs BMX club on July 1st and then it’s back to Regional racing at Norwich the following week.

The Royston clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston start at about 6-00am until the light fails. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
