East Anglia BMX
Regional Series Round
5-Peterborough
After the disappointment of two rounds of the
National BMX Race Series being cancelled over the bank holiday
weekend due to torrential rain, last Sunday saw the fifth round of
the East Anglia BMX Summer Series hosted by the Peterborough BMX
Club run in bright sunshine and with 140 riders from around the
county taking part and with over 100 races the afternoon was full of
very hot action.
The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had riders of all
ages and abilities competing at the event with the novice classes
getting the event under way. Following their successes in previous
events many of the clubs new members took the chance to try another
track and returned with some good results. In the 9 and Under
Novices George Bracewell took the win and Aiden McCall taking 1st
in the 10-13 year class with team mate Scott Paton taking 4th
and in the 14+ class Jack Bracewell also took home first place.
The youngest expert members were competing in the
Under 6yr class, where James King took 4th in the A final
with Ted Dalleywater in 5th and Loui Foreman finished in
2nd in the class B final. In the combined 7/8yr class A
final Ethan Vernon finished in 4th with Aaron Dalleywater
taking 8th after a early slip left him too much work to
do to catch the pack whilst in the B final Daniel Blanche took the
win ahead of Bradan Blanche in 3rd, Aaron Threader in 4th
and Oliver Snelling, another one to fall, finishing in 8th.
The B final of the combined 9 and 10yr Class saw Zak Foreman finish
in 2nd and in the 11-12 yr. class James Handleigh finish
in 2nd with Louis Burton in 8th after a mid
race fall dropped him from a top position and in the B final, Aston
Blanche took first place. The 13 -14yr class saw Antony Taylor
continuing his recent good form finishing in 2nd and
being awarded one of the Rider of the Day trophies whilst Ben
Gutteridge finished in 8th. The 15-16yr male category saw
Wayne Gutteridge having an off day although he qualified for the A
final where he finished in 8th and in the B final Katie
Roberts also took 8th. The 30+ Men’s class saw Royston’s
Darren Foreman again in confident form as he raced to 5th
overall and in the 40+ Cruiser class Phil Burton finished in 4th,
whilst James Dalleywater took 2nd overall in the Cruiser
16-29 class which earned him a Rider of the Day award as well. The
final class on the track was the Masterclass with no less than 27
riders competing for honours with national level Elite riders taking
most positions in the A final where Chris Mapp took 4th
in a tight finish that saw Richard Townsend cross the line in 4th
and the close action continued in the B final with Jonathan Roberts
taking the win.
The next event on the race calendar is the
re-arranged third and fourth round of the National Summer Series
being hosted by the Peterborough BMX club over the weekend of June
16/17th and then it’s back to Regional racing at Braintree the
following week.
The clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs
track in Burns Road, Royston start at about 6-00am until the light
fails. Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are
