East Anglia BMX Regional Series Round 4- Milton Keynes

Last Sunday saw the fourth round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Series hosted by the Milton Keynes BMX Club. Unlike the previous round held at Royston when the weather was rain and more rain, this event started in bright sunshine and only clouded over later in the day. With almost 130 riders from around the county taking part and nearly 100 races the afternoon was full of action.

The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club had 30 riders competing at the event with the novice classes getting the event under way. Following their successes at Royston the previous week many of the clubs new members took the chance to try another track and returned with some good results. In the 9 and Under Novices George Bracewell took the win and Aiden McCall taking 1st in the 10-13 year class and in the 14+ class Jack Bracewell took 3rd just ahead of Scott Paton in 4th

The youngest expert members were competing in the Under 6 yr class, where Ted Dalleywater  took 2nd ahead of James King in 3rd, Archie York in 6th and Loui Foreman in 7th, to get the club off to a flying start in the Regional inter club challenge where the Royston club are currently lying in second place behind Braintree. In the combined 7/8yr class A final Aaron Dalleywater took the A final win with Ethan Vernon taking 3rd and Bradan Blanche finished in 7th whilst in the B final, Oliver Snelling finished in 3rd and Keiran Archer took 4th. The A final of the combined 9 and 10yr Class saw Ethan Lewis finish in 8th after a mid race fall and in the B final, Zak Foreman finished in 2nd. The 11-12 yr. class saw James Handleigh finish with a win in the A final followed home by Royston’s Louis Burton in 6th and Aston Blanche in 7th. The 13 -14yr class saw Antony Taylor starting on a new bike which took him to 3rd ahead of Ben Gutteridge in 5th in the A final whilst Luke Wikinson took 3rd in the class B final. In the 15-16yr male category Wayne Gutteridge had a day to forget with two falls in the qualifying rounds which left him in the B final which he won. The 30+ Men’s class saw Royston’s Darren Foreman in confident form as he raced to 4th overall and in the Cruiser  30-39year class, Tom Yorke took 7th, whilst Phil Burton in the 40+ Cruiser class managed to take 5th. The final class on the track was the Masterclass with no less than 17 riders competing for honours with national level Elite riders taking most positions in the A final where Laurence Mapp took the win with younger brother Chris taking 3rd in a very tight finish that saw Ben Godfrey squeezed into 7th and the close action continued in the B final with Jonathan Roberts taking 2nd just ahead of team mate Richard Townsend in 3rd.

The next event on the race calendar is the third andfourth round of the National Summer Series being hosted by the Bournemouth BMX club next weekend  (May 26/28th) and then it’s back to Regional racing at Peterborough in early June.

The clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston start at about 6-00am until the light fails.
