Last Sunday the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club
members were competing at the final round of the East Anglian Winter
Series at Milton Keynes BMX Club. The weather was very much better
than most of the previous rounds and even though the track has been
under water from the nearby river many times since the start of the
year the club had put a lot of effort into getting the surface
relayed to make it a really good day to end the series for the
riders from around the region.
The youngest riders take part in a class known as
Formula 5 and are nominally 7 years and under. Royston riders packed
the class with no less than the top four places in the A Final being
taken by the club with Aaron Threader taking the win ahead of Bradan
Blanche in 2nd, Daniel Blanche finishing in 3rd
and Oliver Snelling in 4th and not to be outdone Ted
Dalleywater took 8th whilst in the B final one of the
youngest riders of all those competing was Loui Foreman who took 3rd.
In Formula 4, a class based on 8-10 year olds, the Rockets riders
had “A” final success with Ethan Vernon in 3rd and Zak
Foreman in 6th. Two of the Rockets representative in
Formula 3 (11-13 years) qualified for a very competitive A final
where Aston Blanche who took 6th and Luke Wilkinson
finished in 8th, whilst Aaron Dalleywater had a day to
forget with crashes in the motos putting him into the B final where
slipped pedals at the start gave the rest of the riders a good start
but he managed to battle back to take 4thon the line.
Royston had more good results in Formula 2 where both riders are
riding up a class with James Handleigh taking 3rd in the “A” final
with team mate Louis Burton finishing in 7th. The final
class on the track was Formula 1, which was the largest and fastest
class of the day where in the class B final Royston’s only
representative, Darren Foreman finished in 1st.
This was the final round of the series and BMX
racing now moves into the summer season which starts on April 1st
at Braintree with the Spring Classic Race where the Rockets will
again be out in force.
The Rockets will be holding a “come and try” session
at the Royston & District Sports Council’s Sports Fayre at the
Royston Leisure Centre on April 14th where visitors can
try their hand at riding round an obstacle course as well as having
a chat to club members about the sport. Full details of forthcoming
club and regional events are published on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
information on BMX racing.
