Winter
Regional Round 6 - 18th March 2007
Last Sunday the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club
members were competing at the penultimate round of the East Anglian
Winter Series at Ipswich BMX Club. The weather was very cold and
windy with rain, hale and even snow showers interrupting the day.
However the bad weather was not enough to stop over 60 riders from
around the region making the journey to take part in a full
afternoons racing.
The youngest riders take part in a class known as
Formula 5 and are nominally 7 years and under. Five racers from
Royston battled the high winds to take part in this class with
Daniel Blanche finishing in a fine 3rd and Ted
Dalleywater taking 7th just ahead of Jasia Blanche in 8th
in the A Final whilst in the B final Oliver Snelling took the win
and the youngest rider of all those competing was Loui Foreman who
took 3rd even though the winds almost had the youngest
riders going backwards along the last straight. In Formula 4, a
class based on 8-10 year olds, the Rockets riders had “A” final
success with Ethan Vernon in 6th whilst in the B Final
Zak Foreman finished in first just ahead of team mates Bradan
Blanche in 3rd and Aaron Threader in 4th. The
Rockets representative in Formula 3 (11-13 years) all qualified for
a very competitive A final where Aston Blanche who took a fine 3rd
and Luke Wilkinson finished in 6th, one place ahead
of Aaron Dalleywater in 7th. Royston had another good
turn out in the Formula 2 where James Handleigh, who is riding up a
class, took 8th in the “A” final and in the “B” final
Louis Burton, who is also riding up a class finished in 3rd
with Katie Roberts in 5th. The final class on the track
was Formula 1, which was the largest and fastest class of the day
where Lee Alexander took 4th and chased home by Jonathan
Roberts in 5th in the A Final and in the class B final
Royston’s Darren Foreman finished in 1st with Wayne
Gutteridge, another Royston rider moving up a class taking 5th.
The final round in the series is at Milton Keynes on
March 25th where the Rockets will again be out in force.
