East Anglia Regional 8 Ipswich - 3rd September 2006
Last
weekend it was the turn of the Ipswich BMX Racing Club to host the
final round of the Regional BMX Race Series and The Royston Rockets
club riders were out in force to gain points to grab the final points
towards their Regional rankings and qualification to the British
Championship in September. The threatened rain running up to the event
relented on Sunday and the conditions were overcast with a high wind
facing the riders along two of the straights which made racing
especially difficult for the younger classes which spoilt the days
racing.
The
Rockets had over 15 riders taking part in the “Expert” classes
with the youngest riders in the 6 and Under class where Daniel Blanche
took 3rd and Jasia Blanch finished in 4th just
ahead of Ted Dalleywater in 5th. In the 7-8 year class all three
Rockets made the final, where Aaron Dalleywater took a fine win, which
impressed the judges enough to also award him with the Rider of the
Day trophy, and team mate Bradan Blanche took 4th chased
home by Ethan Lewis in 5th. Moving up to the 9-10 year group both
Rockets made the main Final with James Handleigh taking 2nd and Louis
Burton finished in 4th.
The 11-12 year class final saw Zach Stevens finish in 3rd
with Ben Gutteridge taking 4th just ahead of Aston Blanche in 6th
and in the 13-14 year class, Wayne Gutteridge finished in 3rd
and Anthony Taylor took 4th overall in the class.
Representing the girls, Katie Roberts, who races in the male 15-16
class to improve her race skills took 4th and in the very
competitive Masterclass category, Richard Townsend took 2nd.
The Cruiser classes also generated good results for the Rockets with
Paul Bateman taking 2nd ahead of Leroy Seaton in 3rd
in the 40+ class.
With
the summer season drawing to a close, the next event on the race
calendar is the British Championships itself over the weekend of the
September 16/17th at Harworth followed one week later by
the Regional Championships at Braintree. Royston’s Tuesday night
sessions at the track in Burns Road, are coming to a close - for full
details of this and other forthcoming club and regional events are
published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
