East Anglia Regional 7 Royston - 20th August 2006
Last
weekend it was the turn of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club to host
a round of the Regional BMX Race Series and club riders were out in
force to gain points for their Regional rankings and qualification to
the British Championship in September. This was also an opportunity
for the newer members of the club to taste the next atmosphere of a
larger event and many took the opportunity to compete in the novice
classes. This was the seventh and penultimate round of the Series,
which concludes at Ipswich in early September. The heavy rains during
the week running up to the event relented on Sunday and the conditions
were good for racing with only one light shower to spoil the day.
The
Rockets had over 30 riders taking part with almost a third of those in
the novice classes which were led off by the Under 9’s with George
Bracewell taking first place just ahead of team mates Jake Murley in 2nd
and Loui Foreman in 4th. Moving up to the 10-13 Novice
class, Jack Bracewell took 2nd and Harry Bracewell finshed
in 7th with Nash Clements in 8th and in the 14+
Novices Royston’s Andy Murley matched his brother, as he also took 2nd.
The Expert classes were next on track with the youngest riders
in the 6 and Under class where Daniel Blanche took a well earned win,
Oliver Snelling took 4th, Jasia Blanch finished in 5th
just ahead of Ted Dalleywater in 6th. In the 7-8 year class all four
Rockets made the main “A” final, where Ethan Lewis took a fine win
with teammate Aaron Dalleywater taking 3rd, Zak Foreman in
5th chased home by Bradan Blanche in 6th. Moving
up to the 9-10 year group both Rockets made the main Final with James
Handleigh taking a fine win followed over the line by Louis Burton in
4th. The 11-12
year class final saw Ben Gutteridge take 4th just ahead of Aston
Blanche in 6th and Zach Stevens in 7th whilst in
the 13-14 year class, Wayne Gutteridge finished in 3rd and
Anthony Taylor took 5th overall in the class. Representing
the girls, Katie Roberts, who races in the male 15-16 class to improve
her race skills took 6th and in the very competitive 17+
class, Lee Alexander took the win in the “B” final whilst in the
Masterclass category, Laurence Mapp took 2nd with Richard
Townsend in 4th and Jonathan Roberts in 8th. The
Cruiser classes also some good results from the Rockets with Danny
Bateman taking the win in the 13-16 year class, James Dalleywater took
4th in the 17-29 class as did Darren Foreman in the 30-39
class and Leroy Seaton went one better with a 3rd in the
40+ class.
The
next event on the race calendar is the final round of the National
Series in Chesterfield over the August 26/27 weekend and the following
Sunday will be the final round of the 2006 Regional Series at Ipswich.
The clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns
