East Anglia Regional 6 Norwich July 30th 2006
Members
of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club were again out last weekend to
gain points for their Regional rankings and qualification to the
British Championship in September as they competed at the sixth round
of the Series race at Norwich. The host club has one of the newest,
and longest, tracks in the country, which it is hoped will join the
National Race Series in 2007.
Although
the Rockets only had 12 riders taking part the racing was close and
any errors early in a race could often be rectified later due to the
length of the track The youngest riders were in the 6 and Under class
where Daniel Blanche finished in 3rd, Oliver Snelling took
5th and Ted Dalleywater finished in 6th.
In the 7-8 year class all three Rockets made the main “A”
final, where Ethan Lewis took a fine 3rd with teammate
Aaron Dalleywater taking 5th and Bradan Blanche taking a
hard earned 7th after having to take evasive action to
avoid a fallen rider along the first straight. Moving up to the 9-10
year group both Rockets made the “A” Final with James Handleigh
taking an excellent win closely followed by Louis Burton in 2nd
who was awarded the “Rider of the Day” trophy by the judges.
The
11-12 year class main final saw Ben Gutteridge take 4th just ahead of
Aston Blanche in 6th whilst in the 13-14 year class,
Anthony Taylor took 3rd in the class “A” final with Wayne
Gutteridge finishing in 7th after a mid race incident
through a technical section saw him leave the track and almost collide
with one of the race officials.
The
next event on the race calendar is the penultimate round of the
National Series in Newton Abbott over the August 12/13 weekend and the
following Sunday (August 20th) the Rockets will be hosting
their round of the 2006 Regional Series. The clubs regular Tuesday
night sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston starting at
6.00pm and for full details of this and other forthcoming club and
regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
