2006 East Anglia Regional 5 Peterborough July 2nd 2006

For the second Regional Series Race in a row the sun shone brightly – this time a little too brightly – on the BMX racers at the fifth round of the Series race at Peterborough. The host club has just had two of the berms covered in tarmac to make it one of the fastest tracks in the country and it is due to host round 5 of the National Race Series on July 23rd. The members of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club were again out to gain points for their Regional rankings and qualification to the British Championship later in the year.

The Rockets had 24 riders taking part with the youngest riders being the 6 and Under class where Daniel Blanche finished in 4th and Ted Dalleywater finished in 6th.  In the 7-8 year class Ethan Lewis made the main “A” final where took a fine 3rd which was enough for the judges to award him with “Rider of the Day” with team mate Bradan Blanche taking a well earned 7th and in the “B” final, Aaron Dalleywater took the win with Zak Foreman in 3rd.  Moving up to the 9-10 year group two Rockets made the “A” Final with James Handleigh taking 3rd and Louis Burton finishing in 7th and in the class “B” Final Kyle Gutteridge raced to 4th. The 11-12 year class saw Cameron Howard take 4th in the “A” final whilst in the “B” final Ben Gutteridge took the win just ahead of Aston Blanche in 2nd and the fourth Rocket in the class, Zach Stevens was forced to retire after just two races. In the 13-14 year class, Wayne Gutteridge took 1st in the class B” final with Anthony Taylor finishing in 2nd. The 17+ class saw Lee Alexander take 6th after a fall earlier in the day whilst in the Masterclass category, Chris Mapp took 3rd with Richard Townsend in 5th and Jonathan Roberts in 7th.  In the Cruiser classes Danny Bateman took 3rd in the 13-16yr class and in the 17-29 class James Dalleywater took a well deserved 2nd.  Trying his luck in his first Regional class event, Darren Foreman rode well for 7th in the Cruiser 30-39yr class whilst in the  40+ class Leroy Seaton held on for 2nd with Paul Bateman taking 4th place overall.

The next event on the race calendar is the European Championships at Cheddar next weekend where the Rockets riders will again be out in force to try their skills against the top riders from across Europe – with almost 1500 riders registered for the four day event the racing will be fast and furious. The clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns Road, Royston starting at 6.00pm and for full details of this and other forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
