East Anglia Regional 4 Braintree 11 June 2006
At
last the sun shone brightly possibly a little too brightly on
the BMX racers at the rearranged Regional Series race at Braintree,
which had been cancelled two weekends ago due to a flooded track. The
members of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club were again out to gain
points for their Regional rankings and qualification to the British
Championship later in the year.
Since
the event had been rearranged a number of riders had to miss the event
due to prior arrangements but those that made the trip were the first
to try out the new start hill and start gate system, which the club
only completed the previous day. The Rockets had 15 riders spread
across the classes with the youngest riders being the 6 and Under
class where Daniel Blanche finished in 3rd ahead of Oliver Snelling in
5th and Ted Dalleywater in 6th.
In the 7-8 year class Ethan Lewis was made the main A
final where took 5th and in the B final, Aaron
Dalleywater took 4th with Zak Foreman in 5th and Bradan
Blanche in 8th. Moving up to the 9-10 year group two
Rockets made the A Final with James Handleigh taking the win and
Louis Burton finishing in 3rd and in the class B Final Kyle
Gutteridge raced to 1st on the line. The 11-12 year class
saw Ben Gutteridge in 4th and team mate Aston Blanche in 7th.
In the 13-14 year class Wayne Gutteridge took 2nd which was enough for
the judges to award him with Rider of the Day. In the Cruiser
classes Danny Bateman took 3rd in the 13-16yr class and in
the 40+ class Paul Bateman held on for 2nd place overall.
The
next event on the race calendar is the fourth round of the National
Series at Cheddar next weekend where the Rockets riders will again be
out in force to gain points this time towards their National
rankings. The clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track
in Burns Road, Royston starting at 6.00pm and for full details of this
and other forthcoming club and regional events are published on the
club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
