2006 Championships - 24th September 2006  

Last Sunday saw the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club competing in the East Anglia BMX Championships. This is the final event of the summer season and the weather was warm and the threat of rain never materialised to give good conditions in which to race. Almost 140 riders from around the region took part and the condition of the track made for some very close racing.

The Rockets had riders in many of the classes with the 6 and Under class starting the day where Royston’s Daniel Blanche took a fine win which persuaded the judges to award him a “rider of the Day” award. Also in the same class Oliver Snelling gained good points for his club with a 4^th place as did Jasia Blanche with her 7^th place and Ted Dalleywater with his win in the B Final which also saw Royston’s youngest member, Loius Foreman, take 6^th place.

In the 7-8 year class, a fine third place went to Aaron Dalleywater in the “A” final with Ethan Lewis in 7^th and in the class “B” final, Zak Foreman took 3^rd just ahead of Bradan Blanche in 5^th.  Moving up to the 9-10 year group both Rockets “expert” riders made the “A” Final with James Handleigh taking the win with Louis Burton in 5^th, whilst Jake Murley, in his first major event took 8^th in the class “B” final. The 11-12 class saw Ben Gutteridge take 4^th in the “A” final with teammate Aston Blanche taking 8^th on the line. In the 13-14 class Wayne Gutteridge took a fall early in the “A” final but remounted to claim 8^th. The 30+ Class saw Lee Alexander taking 2^nd overall with Andy Murley in 8^th in his first major event. Masterclass rider, Richard Townsend, took 4^th overall and in the Cruiser classes Darren Foreman took 5^th in the 30-39 yr class whilst Paul Bateman took 2^nd in the 40+ category to round of a good points scoring tally for the Rockets who claimed third place in the Club Championship behind the Peterborough and Braintree clubs
