National 3 - Bryn Bach Parc - Wales - 21st May 2006
BMX
racers from the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club were competing against
themselves and the weather at round three of the National BMX Summer
Series held at Parc Bryn Bach, Tredegar, and the only national
standard track in Wales on Sunday. The weather was cold and the rain
and wind persisted all weekend to leave the camping and spectators
area mainly under water although the track held up extremely well to
enable racing to continue. Almost 300 riders from around the country
took part although the conditions on and off track made for some very
unexpected results.
The
Rockets youngest riders at the event, Daniel Blanche, competing in the
6 and Under class finished
in an excellent 2nd with cousin Jasia in her first National event
taking 7th whilst in the 7 year class “B” Final the
third member of Team Blanche, Bradan, finished in 3rd.
Ethan Lewis took 5th place in the 8yr class and Royston’s
three riders in the 10 yr class had a very successful day with all of
them making their way through to the main “A” final where Zach
Stevens took 1st, James Handleigh took 4th just
ahead of team mate, Louis Burton in 5th. The Rockets second
female rider at the event, Katie Roberts, took 5th in the
Junior Female class whilst her brother Jonathan continued his
excellent start to this years racing with another win in the Junior
Male class. The two Elite Class riders also had a successful day on
the track with Richard Townsend taking 4th in the “B”
final and Laurence Mapp in 3rd in the class “A” final.
The
clubs own regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track in Burns
Road, Royston have now started with the gates opening at 6pm where
anyone with a BMX or MTB bike is welcome to come along to find out
more about the sport. Full details of this and other forthcoming club
and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
