Inter Regional Round 2 - Milton Keynes June 4th 2006
Following
the cancellation of the previous weekends planned regional race due to
a flooded track the members of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club
were competing in the third round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Series
last Sunday on the sun drenched track of the Milton Keynes club. This
event was also the second of two Inter-Region Challenges between East
Anglia and the South Region and after the first round held at the
South Regions Hayes track, East Anglia held a narrow lead in the
competition. Once again
the event attracted almost 250 riders from the two regions to make
some very competitive and exciting racing.
The
Rockets had riders in many of the classes with the clubs newest member
to try his hand at Regional level events, Jake Murley, taking 2nd
place in the Novice 8-10 “B” final whilst the youngest riders
being the 6 and Under class where Daniel Blanche finished in 4th
ahead of Oliver Snelling and Ted Dalleywater who the top two places in
the “B” final. In the
7-8 year class Ethan Lewis was unlucky not to make the main final but
took 2nd in the “B” final and in the same class “C”
Final, Aaron Dalleywater took the win with Zak Foreman in 4th
and Kieran Archer in 7th. Moving up to the 9-10 year group
two Rockets made the “A” Final with Louis Burton finishing in 6th
following a mid race melee which left James Handleigh rolling in the
dust to end up in 8th and in the class “B” Final Kyle
Gutteridge raced to 4th. The 11-12 year class saw Zak
Stevens take 3rd in the “A” final just inches ahead of
Ben Gutteridge in 4th and in the 13-14 year class “B” final Wayne
Gutteridge took 3rd with Antony Taylor took 4th.
Representing the female gender, Katie Roberts took on the 15-16 years
male class where she finished in 5th in the “B” final.
As usual, to give the older riders more experience, the 17+ category
was combined with the “Master Class” and the classes split out
after the racing, which left Royston’s Laurence Mapp taking the
“A” Final win with younger brother Christopher, returning after an
football (!!) related injury took 3rd and Jonathan Roberts
who had slid out on the dusty surface in his semi final bounced back
to take the win the “B” final.
The
next event on the race calendar is the re-arranged round of the
Regional Summer Series at Braintree next weekend where the Rockets
riders will again be out in force to gain points towards their
ranking. The clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs track
in Burns Road, Royston starting at 6.00pm to enable the riders to have
additional coaching. Full details of this and other forthcoming club
and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
