Inter Regional Round 1 - Hayes May 15th 2006
Last
Sunday members of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club were competing
in the second round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Series and to add to
the competition this event was the first of two Inter-Region
Challenges between East Anglia and the South Region. The Race was held
at the South Regions Hayes BMX Race track and almost 250 riders from
the two regions took part in some very competitive racing.
The
Rockets had riders in many of the “Expert” classes with the
youngest being the 6 and Under class where Daniel Blanche finished in
5th ahead of Jasia Blanche in 8th and Ted
Dalleywater who won the “B” final.
In the 7-8 year class “A” Final Ethan Lewis took 8th
place and in the same class “B” Final, Aaron Dalleywater took 6th
and Bradan Blanche in 7th and the clubs newest member at
the event, Zak Foreman just failed to make the main finals. Moving up
to the 9-10 year group two Rockets made the “A” Final with James
Handleigh finishing in 3rd just ahead of Louis Burton in 4th
and in the class “B” Final Kyle Gutteridge raced to 4th
after a recent layoff and Zak Stevens just failed to qualify from the
Moto stages. The 11-12 class saw Aston Blanche take 4th in
the class “B” final and in the 13-14 class Wayne Gutteridge took 8th
in the “A” final after a mid race slip and Antony Taylor took 7th
in the “B” final whilst new rider Darren Plumb took the win in the
class “C” final. The Rockets only female rider on the day, Katie
Roberts, took on the 15-16 years male class where she finished in a
well deserved 4th in the “B” final whilst in the
Cruiser Classes Danny Bateman took 2nd in the 13-16 class
and Dad, Paul took 6th in the 40+ final. As usual, to give
the older riders more experience, the 17+ category was combined with
the “Master Class” and the classes split out after the racing,
which left Royston’s Laurence Mapp taking the “A” Final win with
Jonathan Roberts in 4th, In the “B” final Richard
Townsend took 7th after a mid race incident saw him slide out on the
dusty surface, a fate that also befell Lee Alexander who had to retire
injured.
The
next event on the race calendar round three of the National Summer
Series at Parc Bryn Bach in Wales next weekend where the Rockets
national riders will again be out in force to gain points towards
their ranking. The clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at the clubs
track in Burns Road, Royston now start at 6.00pm to enable the riders
to have additional coaching. Full details of this and other
forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web
