Club Promotion 6th May 2006
Last
Saturday the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club held a promotion
afternoon, which proved very successful with a lot of potential riders
taking part in the novice races. The dancers of the Royston Dance
Academy who put on a very good display in difficult conditions, as
they do not normally perform on rough grass, opened the event! They
also had a stall to promote themselves and raise funds for their group
to travel to more formal competitions.
This
year the BMX club has been very lucky with sponsorship from local
firms and JK Environmental Ltd provided one of their vehicles to act
as a backdrop for photographs of the club members in their new race
kit, which has been sponsored by JK environmental and Custom Rider BMX
of Letchworth. The trophies that were awarded after the racing were
sponsored by Barkway Service Station who have also provided club
medals for use throughout the year. Other sponsors include Sports Kit,
Royston Autocare Ltd, Wisdom Carpets, The Factory shop, VB Trophies,
Hale Printers, Odsey Service Station, Somerfield,
Burns Road Co-op and Bedfordshire Auto Electrics.
The
Royston Town Councils “Community Chest” made an award towards the
costs involved in running the event including suitable First Aid and
the North Herts District Council Parks team and their subcontractors
made a special effort to tidy the grass and surrounding areas. The
event was well covered on the day by both the local papers and Anglia
Regional television for which the club is most grateful.
The
first class on the track was the 7 & under “experts” where
Aaron Dalleywater took 2nd splitting the Blanche cousins with Daniel
in 3rd and Bradan in 1st. In the 7 and Under Novice class 3rd
place went to Oban Pidgeon with Kaz Campbell in 2nd and
James Denmam taking the class win. In the 8-10 Experts Fred Deveraux
took 3rd just behind James Handleigh in 2nd and
Micheal Ledlie in 1st
and in the equivalent Novice race 3rd place went to
Ryan Cameron with Zak Foreman in 2nd and Anthony Perrott
taking the win. The 11-13 experts were next to race with Mason James
taking 3rd, Ben Gutteridge in 2nd and Anthony
Taylor in 1st whilst in the 11 plus Novices, Bradley Vine
took 3rd with Tom Clarke in 2nd and Darren Plumb
in 1st. The last class was the14+ experts where Miles Kirby
took 3rd, Danny Bateman finished in 2nd with the
win going to Lee Alexander.
The
weather was fine for the most of the day but as the last few races
were run the drizzle started and by the time the trophy presentation
started the rain was getting heavy which spoilt the end of the day.
The presentation of the trophies to the younger classes was by the
districts newly elected councillor, Liz Beardwell, whilst the older
riders received their trophies from representatives of Barkway Service
Station.
The
clubs summer practice nights are held every Tuesday at the clubs track
in Burns Road, Royston with the gates now opening at 6.00am – an
hour earlier than originally planned so that additional coaching can
be provided. Full details of this and other forthcoming club and
regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
