Winter
Regional Round 6 - 19th March 2006
The
Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club made the final trip of the winter
season last Sunday to compete in the sixth round of the East Anglian
Winter Series in Ipswich. Although the weather was cold and the wind
dropped to give the riders a good track to race on which made a
pleasant change from previous rounds. Over 60 riders from around the
region took part and the format of the day’s event made for some
very competitive racing with all riders having at least five chances
of showing of their racing skills.
The
youngest class are nominally 7 years and under and are known as
Formula 5 and Royston three riders in the class all made the with
Bradan Blanche taking 4th just behind Aaron Dalleywater who
finished in a fine 2nd. In Formula 4 for 8-10 year olds, the Rockets
riders had more “A” final success with Kyle Gutteridge in 3rd and
the youngest rider in the class, Ethan Lewis took 5th in
the B final with team mate Aston Blanche taking 8th. All
three Rockets made the A final of Formula 3 (11-13 years) with James
Handleigh taking 2nd and Ben Gutteridge finishing in 4th whilst Louis
Burton took 6th. Both Royston riders in the Formula 2 class
also made the “A” final where Wayne Gutteridge fell going into the
first turn whilst challenging for a top 3 placing whilst Anthony
Taylor, who had qualified to ride up a class managed to keep clear of
the early race incidents to take 4th. The last class on the track was Formula 1 where once again
all three Rockets made the “A” final with Richard Townsend taking
3rd with Jonathan Roberts in 7th just ahead of
team mate Lee Alexander in 8th.
The
next event on the race calendar is the East Anglia Spring Classic at
Norwich on April 9th where the Rockets will be out in force
for the Summer seasons opening event.
