Winter
Regional Round 4 - 22nd January 2006
Royston
Rockets BMX Racing Club travelled to the new BMX track In Norwich for
the fourth round of the East Anglian Winter Series last Sunday. For
the first time in this winter’s series the track was not frozen or
flooded but the sun refused to come out so the temperature was only
just above zero but the 80+ riders that took part enjoyed some very
competitive racing on the new track which is now one of the longest in
the country.
The
youngest class are nominally 7 years and under and are known as
Formula 5 and Royston had three riders in the class with Bradan
Blanche with taking the win ahead of his cousin Daniel Blanche who
finished in 2nd and Aaron Dalleywater who finished in 4th.
In Formula 4 for 8-10 year olds, the Rockets riders had varying
success with Kyle Gutteridge in 5th in the A final whilst
the youngest rider in the class, Ethan Lewis, took 4th in
the B final just behind team-mate Aston Blanche who took 2nd.
Another two Rockets were competing up a class into Formula 3 (11-13
years) with James Handleigh taking 4th with
Louis Burton in 5th although both had to follow Ben
Gutteridge home as he took a fine 3rd in the A final. All three
Royston riders in the large Formula 2 class had a good day with Wayne
Gutteridge taking top place in the B final with Anthony Taylor,
another Rocket who had qualified to ride up a class took 3rd
whilst Royston’s only female representative on the day, Katie
Roberts took an excellent 5th in the class A final.
The last class on the track was Formula 1 which includes a
number of the countries top Elite riders and Royston’s Richard
Townsend took 4th, just headed home by Jonathan Roberts who
grabbed 3rd on the line in the A final.
The
next round of the Winter Series is on February 19th at Braintree.
Practice starts at 11-45am and rider registration closes at 12-00 noon
with racing starting around 12-45pm – or sooner if the weather is
bad!
