Summer
Series Round 5 - 19 June 2005
The
Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club travelled east towards the sea to
Ipswich BMX Club’s track last Sunday for the fifth round of the 2005
Summer Series. The weather forecast was, for once, accurate as the sun
beat down on riders, officials and spectators alike from early morning
although the riders still produced fast and very competitive racing.
The number of riders registered for the event was a little
disappointing but the spectators were still presented with an
afternoon of exciting competition.
The
7-8 year class saw Royston’s youngest rider, Ethan Lewis rode
consistently all day to claim 5th place and in the 9-10 Male class no
less than four Royston members were competing with James Handleigh
leading the pack from the line to take a clear win which was
recognised with James’s being awarded Rider of the Day and Zach
Stevens grabbed 4th on the line with Louis Burtons
finishing in 6th with team mate Kyle Gutteridge taking 8th. The next
class on the track was the 11-12year males where Ben Gutteridge fought
hard in the motos to gain qualification to the “A” final where he
finished in 7th whilst team mate Anthony Taylor, in one of
his best rides this year took the win in the “B” final and to
round of the Rockets day in the 13-14 year old male class Wayne
Gutteridge rode well for a 2nd place.
The
Club members are now busy preparing the Royston track for Round 6 of
the Regional Series on July 3rd where it is expected that
over 100 riders will assemble to race for individual and club ranking
points. Rider registration for the event closes at 11am and racing
will start about 1230pm.
The
Royston club’s practice evenings are being held every Tuesday from
7.00pm. Further details of forthcoming club and regional events are
published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
