Summer Series Round 3 - 15th May 2005

The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club were competing in the third round of the 2005 Summer Series at Ipswich BMX Track last Sunday, although the event was actually being run by the Norwich BMX Club who are in the process of building a new national standard track. The weather was sunny and dry which made the track a little loose and dusty but the racing was fast and very competitive

The 7-8 year class saw Royston’s youngest rider, Ethan Lewis taking an excellent 3rd place overall in the class, even though a fall in his last qualifier probably robbed him of a higher placing. Even with his fall the judges awarded Ethan one of the “Riders of the Day” trophies in recognition of his battling rides against older riders. In the 9-10 Male class both Royston members made the “A” final with James Handleigh leading the Royston charge with a 2nd place with team mate Louis Burton not far behind in 6th. The Master Class category saw all three Rockets qualify for the “A” final with Laurence Mapp taking the win, Chris Mapp in 4th and Richard Townsend taking 6th.

The Club members move onto Peterborough next weekend for the fourth round of the Regional Series followed by the second national of the year at Chorley in Lancashire.

The Royston club’s practice evenings are being held every Tuesday from 7.00pm. Further details of forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
