Summer
Series Round 2 - 8th May 2005
The
Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club were competing in the second event of
the 2005 Summer Series at Hayes BMX Club last Sunday and this was the
second of a two round Inter Regional Challenge between the South
Region and East Anglia. The two regions put together almost 200
riders, which ensured full gates and very competitive racing on the
wide sweeping track – the dry weather stayed for most of the day,
although a shower, which fortunately coincided with a break in the
racing, damped the track down ready for the finals.
This
event used the new age group categories, which has reduced the number
of classes but made each one more competitive. The 7-8 year class saw
Royston youngest rider, Ethan Lewis battling against riders up to two
years older but he kept his form and recorded a second win in a row in
the “B” final. In the 9-10 Male class all three Royston members
made the finals with James Handleigh leading the Royston pack with a 4th
in the A final win with team mates Louis Burton, riding his first
major event of the year, not far behind in 8th and one of the youngest
riders in the class, Kyle Gutteridge taking a fine 3rd place in the
class B final. In the 11-12 Male class, Ben Gutteridge took a hard
earned 2nd in the B Final and in the 13-14 Male class,
Wayne Gutteridge took an excellent win in the B Final. In the very
competitive Master Class category, Richard Townsend took 7th
in a blanket finish in the class A Final and Royston’s last rider of
the day was Zach Stevens who decided to try his hand on the larger
Cruiser BMX bikes where he took a fine 3rd in the 12 and
Under class.
The
Club members move onto Ipswich next weekend for the third round of the
Regional Series followed by round 4 at Peterborough and the second
national of the year at Chorley in Lancashire.
The
Royston club’s track in Burns Road is now rideable and club evenings
are being held every Tuesday from 7.00pm. Further details of
forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web
site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
